Outside of the derby world, I work in a bar. I am constantly approached by people in various sports jerseys who want to discuss their team of choice and reflect on how awesome they are. Eventually they pick up on the blank expression on my face and ask me who I follow. I speak right up and tell them about The Roller Warriors and how awesome THEY are. The response is usually the same: “Oh, you just like them because they’re women.” This tells me right off the reason they follow the sports they do—because men are involved.
This also tells me that they’ve never seen a Roller Warriors game. Well folks, it doesn’t matter if you’re a fan of professional or amateur sports or prefer women’s sports over me, if you’ve never been to a game or have been to every one, you’re all in luck.
2013 marks the first year that KCRW is having a winter season. There’s never been a better time to get out of the cold than right now. The team is back at Winnwood Skate Center—where it all began. The teams have changed and there are even a few familiar faces returning to the game. You’ll want to get season tickets for this because Winnwood will fill up. Do you want to get in on the ground floor for some home team excitement? The season starts November 17th. Where will you be?
