Dorothys vs. Susans - This marked the last Underground game along with the end of regular home season. Although the Dreadnought Dorothys have secured their spot in The Rink of Fire, there was still one more game to play. The last time these two teams squared off against each other was back in February and The Dorothys won 178 to 152.
Both teams seemed evenly matched going into the game. The Dorothys were down Anya Neezenbeg, Cupcake Smasher and Road Hash but Eve Illness formerly of Palm Coast and Golden Meanie finally made her return. The Susans were missing Estee Slaughter, Morella Warfare and Peter Babriel but they had two new additions with Socka Jo Mama formerly of Fort Meyers and Turtle Power formerly of Salina and Veteran City.
The game got off to a slow start offensively but then, early in the period, Turtle Power got a 25 point power jam and it was looking glum for The Dorothys. Later in the period, Dr. Dread would get a power jam of her own and move The Dorothys to a closer deficit. By the end of the period, The Dreadnought Dorothys had taken the lead with 78 to 77.
Tuff Noogies must have given an inspiring locker room speech because The Susans came back for the second half and just got their momentum going and dominated. By the time the final whistle blew, The Black Eye Susans had won 167 to 126.
Personally, I find it amusing that the only times The Susans have won has been when they were in fourth place and playing the first place team. Not quite sure what to make of it, but it makes for an interesting game.
Don't forget to join us on June 27th at Municipal Auditorium when The Dreadnought Dorothys will take on The Victory Vixens for the trophy and The Knockouts will battle The Black Eye Susans for third place.

Winnwood Skate Center- Monday, June 15th
Today marked the home opener for the Junior Warriors. This year they're keeping it simple with two teams and one skill level. The two teams are, of course, Rolling Thunder (in the pink jerseys) and Starry Fright (in the green).
Illumihottie took the jammer line for Starry Fright against Hannibalistic as the first jam was under way. Starry Fright took an early lead but Rolling Thunder eventually caught up in the middle of the period. Just when it looked like Rolling Thunder might pull away, Starry Fright rallied and poured on the points. The score was 101 to 76 in Starry Frights favor by Halftime. The second period went even better for the girls in green as they kept the pressure on. There was brief drama in the 10th jam as Evie Knievel went down with an injury but she was able to leave the track on her own steam so hopefully it's not serious enough to interfere with the rest of her season. Despite losing a jammer, Starry Fright was still able to pull off a victory of 207 to 176.
The Junior Warriors travel team will be taking a trip to Iowa July 12th to take on the Des Moines Derby Brats and the home teams will be back at Winnwood on July 27th.
The last KCRW Underground game will be on Wednesday, June 17th and of course, the season finale, The Rink of Fire on Saturday, June 27th. Need tickets? >CLICK HERE<

Victory Vixens vs. The Knockouts Part Deux
With The Rink of Fire just around the corner, this re-match between The Victory Vixens and The Knockouts would prove to be one interesting game. Both teams are close enough in the standings that even though The Vixens are currently ranked number two in the league, if The Knockouts win the game by 17 points they will be the ones to go on to play The Dreadnought Dorothys for the trophy.
After a brief meeting in which the team captains, co-captains and head referee established what would occur in various possible scenarios, the game was under way. KO's team captain Mary Lou Wretched took the jammer line against VV's captain, Rump Wrecker. After scoring the first point of the game, Rump Wrecker shut down the jam. Lady Killshot would come back in the next jam to put The Knockouts on the board at 4 to 1. The action continued throughout the first period as the lead was exchanged a few times before The Vixens took a hold and got their momentum going. By Halftime The Vixens were leading 43 to 33.
It was late in the second half before The Knockouts were able to reclaim the lead. Lady Killshot was able to make the most of a power jam and bring the score to 58 to 57. The Vixens would reclaim the lead before Mary Lou Wretched took it back in jam 15 giving The Knockouts a two point advantage. It was enough to win the game but it was a still a far cry from the 17 point differential necessary for The Rink of Fire.
Despite the abridged roster due to nobody coming off of the injured roster since the last game, AND having five players ejected from the game for penalty violations, The Victory Vixens were able to snatch victory out of the jaws of defeat at the last second and secure their number two spot in The Rink of Fire. As the points from the last jam were tallied up in an official time out, The Vixens final score was 91 to 89.
Join us next week for the final Underground game of the season as The Dreadnought Dorothys take on The Black Eye Susans. For those of you who can't wait a whole week for your derby action, The Junior Warriors will be having their season opener on June 15th at Winnwood Skate Center.
Where will you be when the whistle blows?

Municipal Auditorium-Saturday, May 30th, the stakes are high and the pressure's on as the home teams are in the final three games before The Rink of Fire. The current rankings have The Dreadnought Dorothys just barely ahead of The Victory Vixens, The Black Eye Susans in third place with The Knockouts not too far behind. A loss for any team at this point could be disastrous.
In related news, the league recently had a mini draft of eligible Wreck League players (Do you have what it takes? Check the home page for more details). Along with the new draftees, former Dreadnought Dorothys Baby Buster and Raia Sunshine jumped ship and threw their names in the hat. When asked about their decision, they both responded that they felt with so many people leaving, the teams were a little unbalanced. They had confidence that The Dorothys were a strong enough team to persevere without them. Raia Sunshine went to The Black Eye Susans, The Dorothys picked up Havok and Eve Illness, The Knockouts got Rogue and Baby Buster is now a Victory Vixen.
When I pointed out the twist of fate that now pits her against her former team, she laughed and said, "I didn't even think about that, but I'm excited, it'll be fun."
The first game of the night was between The Dreadnought Dorothys and The Victory Vixens. Both teams have three wins and one loss. The Vixens loss was to The Black Eye Susans at the last game. The Dorothys one loss was to The Vixens in Aprils Underground game. Now with rankings and honor on the line, The Dorothys were going to settle for nothing less than blood.
When I spoke with Dorothys team captain, Erin No Bragh, she admitted to being justifiably nervous but she had confidence in her teams abilities to clean up penalties and in the improvements both offensive and defensively. "And" she added, "they don't have Rat."
Track Rat, jammer extraordinaire for both The Vixens and The All-Stars, a name that when seen on skating rosters makes coaches rethink their strategies but, when seen on the injured/absent list, they breathe a sigh of relief. Such was the case on this night as Track Rat shared that list with Hydrogen Bombshell, Remy Killjoy and Sheeza Riot.
The Dorothys were missing the double threat jamming blocker Cupcake Smasher, Eve Illness, Golden Meanie and Road Hash.
I caught up with The Vixens team captain, Rump Wrecker, to get her thoughts on the rematch. She said their confidence was still high despite their last game and Track Rats absence. "It's going to be an exciting game" she said, "we expect a tough bout. I'm sure they're hungry to beat us after we played them last time."
The teams line up and the crowd counts down. The battle begins as walls are formed, gaps are exploited, and penalties are called. By Halftime The Dorothys had established dominance with a score 69 to 48.
The Vixens were unable to stop their momentum and by the end of the second half there was a fresh tally mark in their loss category as The Dreadnought Dorothys won 132 to 96.
During the between game intermission, The Junior Warriors put on an expo bout. It was one ten minute period and they broke up into Team Black and Team White. Team Black got the job done with a final score of 44 to 19. Their season opener is on the 15th, further information is available on this website.
When I spoke with Mary Lou Wretched, team captain of The Knockouts, she sounded enthusiastic about the game-"The Susans are always a tough team, but traditionally, (we) have always kept the games neck-and-neck, so fans can expect the same intensity and stellar game play they're used to."
Black Eye Susans captain, Tuff Noogies, had a similar outlook on the game as she told me that they weren't letting their prior victory make them over confident and that they were just going out there and playing to the best of their abilities.
The Knockouts, essentially, had their full roster while The Susans were playing without Peter Baberiel.
The girls in teal played like a team Hell bent to get out of the basement. Their score was in triple digits before Halftime, leading 127 to 86.
They came back in the second half with the same intensity and at the end of it all, they had claimed the third place spot with a final score of 266 to 185.
On a final note, this was Peanut Butter Panic's last game with KCRW. She's retiring to pursue her dream of exploring the world. Safe travels,my friend.
Don't forget to join us next time, Wednesday, June 10th for another Underground game with the Victory Vixens taking on the Knockouts. On Wednesday, June 17th, the Black Eye Susans will take on the Dreadnought Dorothys. These are the last two before The Rink of Fire. You won't want to miss this.
