Today started weeding out the girls from the women, as far as the rankings are concerned. The first game of the day was between Boulder County Bombers' All-Stars and Treasure Valley's All Stars. Boulder County came to play and dominated early. They were leading 93 to 78 at Halftime but Treasure Valley started to close the gap in the 2nd Period, just not fast enough. The final score was 182 to 174. Boulder County would have another game later that day, Treasure Valley will come back tomorrow for a shot at a lower ranking.
The second game or Game 9, for those of you playing along with the bracket, was between No Coast's Mad Maxines and Sacred City's Sacrificers. The Mad Maxines may have been off their game yesterday but they found their groove today and showed The Sacrificers a few things. They won the game 228 to 187 and would move on to play again later. The Sacrificers were done for the day.
Game 10 saw The All-Stars of Kansas City take on Wasatch's Midnight Terror. Yesterday was an off day for The All-Stars. Anybody will admit to that. They were missing players, they were in a strange city and on a strange floor. It just was not their game. You could see it from the minute they took the track to warm up. Today, the players were all here, they looked relaxed and well rested. The warm ups looked good, the team looked strong. It was as if our team had made it back from Philadelphia or parts unknown where things go that get lost. This correspondent had a good feeling about the game. Wassatch had put up a good fight last night but, we would be ready for them. When the game started and the first Jam was underway, it was a thing of beauty. The defense was in total sync with each other, and JessiKa Boom was jamming. She scored 9 unanswered points. It felt like she was setting the pace of the game. Unfortunately, the next Jam is where things started to go wrong for KCRW. Midnight Terror scored 10 points and started to become our waking nightmare. By Halftime, the score was 118 to 53 in their favor, and a couple of our players were flirting with injuries as the medics escorted them off the track. Luckily, nothing was serious enough to warrant anything more than sitting out for two jams. By the end, the score was 235 to 104 and not in our favor. Wassatch would continue the race for 5th place while The All-Stars will return tomorrow to fight it out for 10th.
Game 11 had The Mad Maxines returning to take on Boulder County. The Bombers All-Stars made quick work of the Nebraska team and, thanks to an 11 team bracket, No Coast finished the tournament in 7th Place. Everybody else still has to wait until tomorrow.
Game 12 saw Wasatch spreading their Midnight Terror over The Tucson Saddletramps. The final score on that was 169 to 137.
Game 13 was where The Capital Punishers of Sac City got shut down by The tent City Terrors of Arizona 250 to 112.
One of the closest games in the tournament happened between Rocky Mountains Fight Club and The Jet City Bombers All Stars. The All Stars led 82 to 70 at Halftime but then, a little at a time, Fight Club lived up to their name and came back for a final score of 182 to 158.
Tune in tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. (MST) to see if KCRW can take 10th place. Remember them if you go to church.
