Municipal Auditorium - Saturday, May 2nd witnessed two rematches for the home teams. The first game of the night had the undefeated Victory Vixens playing The Black Eye Susans who are still looking for a win. The last time these two teams played each other, The Susans got their eye blackened with a score of 136 to 113. When I asked Susans' captain, Tuff Noogies, how it felt to be the underdog going up against an undefeated team, she sounded very positive saying, "I'm not worried about being the underdog, we will fight harder than ever for the win, to play smarter not harder."
As the first period started, it seemed that The Susans hard work was paying off. The offense and defense seemed to be of one mind and they held The Vixens scoreless until the seventh jam when Mayhem Myers finally put four points on the board making the score 42 to 4. The Vixens were unable to slow down The Susans momentum and were trailing 113 to 67 by Halftime. Rump Wrecker and the girls in blue would have their work cut out for them in the second period.
The Vixens had a strong rally in the second half and came close to catching up a couple of times but the black and yellow defense wasn't letting anything through without a fight. As the clock ran out and the game ended, there were two new occurrences - The Victory Vixens were no longer the undefeated team and The Black Eye Susans had their first victory with a score of 195 to 157. Is this team finally starting to wake up and get hungry? The race to The Rink Of Fire continues and it's still too early to count anybody out.
The second game of the night had The Dreadnought Dorothys taking on The Knockouts. These two teams first locked horns in the first KCRW Underground game back in March. The Dorothys skated away with a victory at 145 to 117. The Knockouts are looking for a little payback.
At the end of the first period, it seemed like deja vu all over again as The Dorothys were leading 74 to 46. It was going to take a lot of hard skating if the girls in teal were going to close the gap.
The game ended on time and The Dreadnought Dorothys had once again defeated The Knockouts, this time with a score of 181 to 134.
