Well derby fans, travel team season is looking a little rough at the moment as our teams have been pinned against some of the highest-ranked teams in the nation. Plan B started their fourth season off right with a win at home against Iowa last month but then experienced some road rash when they went to Denver. March 22 was the Rocky Mountain Roller Girls home opener and the Contenders welcomed the new season with a victory of 361 to 106. The following day saw the Denver Roller Dolls' Bruising Altitude start their season by adding a little black and blue to our girls in black and red with a win of 425 to 94.
April 12 saw Plan B as the main event in a derby double feature in North Kansas City where they took on the Sioux City Roller Dames and the Cowtown Butchers took on the Kornstalkers. Tune in to www.cowtownbutchers.com for more on their game.
The Sioux City Roller Dames are out of Iowa and have been part of WFTDA since 2012. Unlike most leagues, the Roller Dames only have one team. This seems to work in their favor since they have played four games so far this year and only lost one.
The first half of the game saw team captain T-Vicious and her Iowa corn fed Dames building walls, hitting hard and keeping Plan B on the run. By half time, T-Vicious had fouled out and the Dames were leading 119 to 73. Somewhere in the second half, Peanut Butter Panic's locker room speech must have kicked in and Plan B started to close the gap. Unfortunately, they ran out of time and the final score was Sioux City 237 Plan B 202.
Hopefully they will turn things around when Plan B returns to Winnwood Skate Center on May 18 to face the Saint Lunachix from St. Louis. It will be a double-header as the KCRW All Stars take on the Arch Rival Roller Girls All Stars. It's also your final chance to see KCRW at home for the season. Hope to see you there!
