Memorial Hall - The travels teams hostessed their first bout in the new house against No Coast Derby Girls' Mad Maxines and The Road Warriors. The All-Stars have not been having a good season thus far on the road so the pressure was on to perform at home especially with the No Coast rivalry. For years, KCRW has dominated the girls from Nebraska but last season that cycle finally broke. The All-Stars are looking to set that straight again.
The Mad Maxines took the track like they meant to keep it and The All-Stars were doing their best to keep up when, finally, in the last jam before Halftime, JessiKa Boom went on a 17 point scoring run and brought the score up to 84 to 82. Still in Lincolns favor, but now there was a game to come back to.
As the second half was underway, it was Sk8l Attraction who finally put the All-Stars in the lead in the third jam. The lead would change hands a couple of more times before JessiKa Boom went on a 20 point scoring run this time bringing the score up 137 to 124 in Kansas City's favor. Despite some great playing, however, it would ultimately be The Mad Maxines who would skate away victorious with a final score of 183 to 160.
Before anybody had time to get too down about that loss, Plan B had their season debut and they did what they do best, skate like their wheels are on fire. The Road Warriors defense just couldn't stand up to the barrage that KC was laying down. By Halftime, the score was already 135 to 58 in Plan B's favor and by the time all was said and done, Kansas City rolled away with a first game win of 212 to 149. Both teams will meet again on July 23rd when the travel teams go to Lincoln.
In the meantime, don't forget about THE home team event-The Rink Of Fire which will happen on June 18th so track down your favorite derby girl and get your advance tickets now! Stay connected with your favorite teams and The Wheel Press on Facebook.
