Wednesday, March 11th, Winnwood Skate Center held the first half of Bout 2's game of the 2015 home season. It had the added bonus of being the first Underground Game played during the week. The Dreadnought Dorothys took on The Knockouts.
The Dorothys are looking to prove that they're ready to fight their way out of the basement while The Knockouts are looking for their first victory of the season. As the crowd counted down and the whistle blew, The Dorothys took an early, aggressive lead. It wasn't until the third jam that Knockouts captain, Mary Lou Wretched, was able to put four points on the board. Seeing that the beast could bleed, the offense went on the attack and by halftime The Dorothys were only leading by three points. The second half would tell a different story. It looked as though captain Erin No Braugh's locker room speech was more inspiring than Mary Lou's because despite all the efforts of The Knockouts, when the dust settled, the scoreboard read Dorothys 145-Knockouts 117. I caught up to Mary Lou Wretched after the game and in spite of a second loss, she and the team still have a positive attitude. They lost some veteran players at the end of last season but they've also picked up some really talented players along with rookie blocker Gloria Strike 'Em. She admits to having some work to do before the team is where it was last season but they're not ready to give up the trophy just yet.
Tune in next time folks, for the second half of the Underground Game Bout 2B where The Victory Vixens will play The Black Eye Susans.
