The last time the Knockouts played the Victory Vixens was back in March. The Vixens won that game 195 to 151. The Knockouts are still looking for a win while the Vixens are looking to improve their record with two games before the Rink of Fire.
The Knockouts came out strong in the first period and it wasn’t looking good for the Vixens at all. By halftime, the Knockouts were leading 103 to 69. The Vixens were holding on through the second period but then, in the 14th jam, Xcelerator scored 12 points and brought the score up to 135 to 132 — the first time the Vixens had been in the lead all game.
Two jams later, Track Rat went on a 16 point scoring run and things were not looking as good for the Knockouts. In jam 20, Case Closed had a power jam and tied the score at 157. Track Rat came out in the following jam and scored 17 points putting the Vixens back on top. JessiKaboom took the star for the next jam and showed that the Knockouts weren’t giving up yet with a 14 point scoring run. Boom retained the star in the next jam against Xcelerator and was lead jammer when she took a major hit and went down but called the jam before Xcelerator could score any points and there was two seconds left on the game clock. The Knockouts called a time out and Boom was able to once again toe the jammer line, this time against Track Rat. The jam started and both skaters fought their way through the pack but it was Track Rat who made it through first and was lead jammer. A quick glance at the clock showed her that period time had expired and only the jam clock was left ticking down so she called the jam and the Vixens won the game 177 to 171.
The second part of the double header had the Black Eye Susans rematched with the Dreadnought Dorothys. When the Dorothys won the last time (176 to 157), Susans team captain Enigma had made the zen-like prophecy of, “If we lose, we’ll face them again.” Face them they did, and with a vengeance. The score was pretty close through the first part of the first half but then, in jam 14, Lady Killshot scored 18 unanswered points and pulled the Dorothys into the lead 61 to 51. The lead was short lived though because in the 17th, Turtle Power scored 25 points and brought the Susans ahead 89 to 70. By halftime, the Susans were still leading 100 to 74.
The second half did not go much better for the Dorothys, especially after Turtle Power came out in the 8th and had a 33 point jam bringing the score up to 164 to 95. By the time the final whistle blew, the Black Eye Susans had won the game 219 to 164.
There’s only one more game before the Rink of Fire and you won’t want to miss it on June 4. In the meantime, the All Stars are due to take a little trip to the left coast to play Santa Cruz and Sacred City on May 21 and 22 so tune in for those results.
