To start the season off right, both county commissioners came out to blow the first whistle for both games.
Game one started with the main event of last season’s Rink of Fire winners, the Victory Vixens, defending their title against the Black Eye Susans.
Before the game, Vixens team captain, Rump Wrecker, mentioned that she wasn't as concerned about a title defense because she was just excited to start the new season: "We're just out to have a good game. We have some new players that we're looking forward to seeing how they do."
As the crowd counted down and the commissioner blew the whistle, the new season was officially underway and Enigma and her Black Eye Susans were not looking to hold anything back. They put 20 unanswered points on the board in the first jam that not only drew first blood, but started a hemorrhage that the Vixens just couldn't stop. By the end of the first half, the Susans had maintained their lead 95 to 81.
The second half didn't fare much better for the Vixens as they fell victim to the Black Eye defense as well as the scoring capabilities of Cherry Poppins. Keep your eyes on this one folks, I have a feeling you'll be seeing a lot of her this season.
When the clock ran out and the whistle blew, it was the Susans who stood victorious with a score of 229 to 154.
Game number two was the Dreadnought Dorothys taking on the Knockouts. It seems that the Dorothys were playing the same strategy as the Susans—get the lead early and hold it for all you're worth.
In the first jam, Lady Killshot put 9 unanswered points on the board and, try as they might, the Knockouts never seemed to get closer than 10 points.
At halftime, the Dorothys were leading 98 to 49. Pandamoanium must have given a good speech in the locker room because the Knockouts came back out and had a rally that brought them within 20 points of tying it up. In the end though, the Dorothys won 165 to 145.
Will the Dreadnought Dorothys relive those thrilling days of yesteryear this season or will the Black Eye Susans have something to say about it? Will the Vixens claim a victory and knock out the Knockouts? These questions and more will all be answered on March 26 when they play Game 2.
