Plan B , being a younger team, has only faced The Saint Lunachix three times. Their first time was in 2011 in Kansas City, where the Lunachix won with a score of 130 to 103. In 2013, Plan B traveled to St. Louis and were defeated again 304 to 106. This year, the Lunachix came back to K.C. and gave Plan B another taste of their solid defense and quick offense and skated back home victorious, final score 176 to 137. Better luck next year, ladies.
The All-Stars have been having a rough time on the road this season. Earlier in May, they went to Oregon to play in the Big O Tournament. Their first bout of the tournament was on May 2, when they were matched up against the formidable Rose City Rollers out of Portland, OR. The final score was RSR-405 KCRW-50. On day two, and the second bout of the weekend, they played the godmothers of roller derby, the Texecutioners from Austin, TX, with final scores TXRD-555 KCRW-73. Later that day, they played the Liberty Belles out of Philadelphia, PA, which ended with scores of PRG-358 KCRW-130. Finally, on May 4 they played the Terminal City All-Stars from Vancouver, British Columbia. The final score of the last bout was TCRG-249 KCRW-150.
KCRW's All Stars defeated St. Louis' All Stars the first three times they met. Last year in St. Louis was the end of that streak. This year, KCRW was hoping to turn the tide. This year was really close. In the first half, nobody held the lead for long. It wasn't until jam 11 when Dr. Dread had a power jam that broke the tie and put Kansas City in the lead. By half time though, St. Louis gained both a power jam and some momentum, turning the score around 55 to 41.
The second half saw K.C. catch back up and the tie game continued. It went back and forth until the final two jams. With seven seconds left on the clock, trailing by only two points, K.C. called a time out to get one more jam to try for a win. Trauma gets lead jammer but St. Louis is hot on her heels. If she calls the jam off, the game is over. The only thing she can do is skate and hope the defense holds up. Kansas City's defense was tough, but St. Louis' was just a little bit tougher. By the time the whistle blew, St. Louis had scored 133 to Kansas City's 118.
On a positive note forward, Plan B will be going to Lincoln, NE on June 6 to take on the No Coast Derby Girls' Road Warriors. June 21 will see the KCRW All Stars in Des Moines, IA to play the Des Moines Derby Dames. Good luck and safe travels.
