Day one of the WFTDA Championships saw The All-Stars take on The Sacred City Sacrificers hailing from Sacramento, California. The outside temperature in Minnesota is currently in the mid 40's and it's not much warmer inside The Roy Wilkins Auditorium for our girls in black and red.
Mary Lou Wretched lined up against Ariel-LA-Twister to start the game. Sacred City drew first blood in the opening jam with a score of 23 to 4. It wasn't until jam seven that they even caught a glimmer of hope as Track Rat had a 19 point run bringing the score to 41 to 36, in favor of The Sacrificers. KC got within a couple of points for a few jams but then Sacred City's defense shut it down and by Halftime the score was 109 to 67.
The All-Stars were looking good going into the second half but they were still being held back by the opposing defense. It seemed as if nothing could break through those walls. Despite the loss of a couple of skaters due to foul outs, KCRW just had difficulties getting any kind of momentum going. In the end, The Sacrificers won 242 to 160. They will go on to play The Music City All Stars for the top position while KCRW moves on to have a Detroit rematch with The Dynamite Dolls.
