Founded in 2004, Kansas City Roller Warriors emerged in an era of roller derby’s women-led, DIY ethos, “By the skater, for the skater,” and which used the sport as an outlet to push the boundaries of what was expected of them. KCRW was also one of the first leagues that helped establish the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), allowing our teams to compete locally, nationally, and internationally and to serve on international task forces and committees. We’re proud to be a part of the momentum that started it all. After 15 active years within Kansas City and WFTDA, our league members decided it was time to make a change. Roller derby has grown to become a global community that expanded its reach. Today, it empowers and inspires individuals and communities we never anticipated from the start. We saw ourselves becoming an equitable resource and space within the greater Kansas City community and knew it was time to make a big change. In 2019, we filed formal paperwork and today are proud to announce we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit sports organization. Our new mission and vision Our new mission and vision are designed to tell our community what it is we stand for as a modern roller derby league and as a non-profit organization in the Kansas City area. Our organization supports initiatives that enhance the health, wellness, and emotional well-being of our members and youth throughout the greater Kansas City area. And we intend to live the following core values as we focus on these tenants of our organization:
